Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization, based in the United States, providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

 

Job Summary

The WASH Coordinator is responsible for designing and implementing water and sanitation projects. They will oversee a team of WASH staff that could include plumbers, construction workers, and cleaners. The WASH Coordinator will be the primary point of contact for subcontractors and will advise the program manager on generally accepted local practices and rules. They will coordinate procurement and delivery of materials with the program manager and SP logistics team, and will assist in contract negotiations.  The WASH Coordinator will report activities to the program manager and perform all other tasks and responsibilities assigned for the benefit of Samaritan’s Purse with a generous and serving spirit.

 

Key Responsibilities

•        Design and implement water and sanitation projects, in coordination with the SP WASH PM, UNHCR, and relevant Greek authorities/Municipality Water Company. 

•        Advise the program manager on the best way to implement a project (i.e. subcontracting, direct procurement, piece by piece basis etc.)

•        Oversee the day-to-day WASH activities across different sites (may include water and wastewater management, sanitation and solid waste management, and hygiene promotion).

•        Ensure that basic WASH standards are maintained within all the sites, this includes application of SPHERE standards, the UNHCR Europe WASH strategy, as well as other internationally recognized operational standards.

•        Supervise subcontractors and employees/temporary laborers to ensure the set project timeliness, quality and design standards are met and are within budget.

•        Assist the program manager in the identification and design of new projects.

•        Coordinate with logistics for WASH procurement, warehousing, and delivery.

•        Complete other activities as directed by the program manager.

Απαραίτητα Προσόντα

Education / Experience Needed

Degree in engineering or construction management preferred. Five years of experience in project implementation and management, preferably in water and sanitation. Proven ability to coordinate and manage staff, finances, and project activities. Past experience in an NGO preferred.

·         Committed to the SP values and ethics.

·         A working knowledge of how water networks, sanitary installations, and septic systems among others are designed.

·         Ability to supervise contractors and staff members.

 

Language Skills

Fluency in Greek and English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English and Greek. Ability to read and interprent legal  and government documents in English and Greek. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of refugees or employees of organization. Farsi and/or Arabic language skills preferred but not required.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.

•        The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be exposed to loud noises around the maintenance and construction workshops.

•        May work in environment with exposure to communicable diseases, cold, wet and humid weather conditions.

•        Work in a security context that is fluid
